The cheapo micro to full size adapters are about a tenner, the only 512GB SD card my retailer has available is €250, and shit's expensive here, so expect that to be around the 200-220 USD bracket. I'm just gonna skip over "if it doesnt work return it" because i've tried expaining you enough they're not gonna accept a retun on that thing. Op said it didnt need to be a hard drive. This adapter and, if needed, a extra power source -> Maybe 60$įor a possible savings of 140$ (or more) on a project that seems like worth the effort with the added benefit of flexibility in storage options if it works. Plenty of people recommend hardware/software they havent personally used. I dont need to use something to recommend it as a possible solution. Who the hell cares about warranty on a 40$ product, if it doesnt work return it. you're adding extra layers for the sake of adding extra layers. (this was made for usb sticks, that at the time were MAYBE a few gigabytes, OP intends to hook up a hard drive to that thing.)ĮDIT: besides, at the price of that thing, with a usb to sata adapter and an extra power brick to power the hard drive, you have a 512GB sd card and one of those cheapy "just some copper" micro SD to SD adapters. I fail to see how you can recommend a product with zero warranty that's 7 years old, you never used before, for a purpose that it was never intended for. SD is known to be slower than usb as well, so i HIGHLY doubt that speed is of any concern here. From nintendos DS to proprietary security camaers, you can use and SD well beyond the advertised size if its in Fat32. All the limits that say "can only use sd card up to X size" are only true if using a a newer format. as such that device would have no issues so long as the card is in fat32. So long as the usb is formatted as fat32 then the capacity capability is capped at 2TB theoretically. on top of that the image with this product indicates that it was made FAR before usb sticks were of the crazy capacities they are today, which probably means issues, on top of which i can right here and now pretty much guarantee you that thing will be a freaking nightmare in terms of speed. Then i suggest you read trough this stackexchange on the complexity of the matter.Įssentially, he website states that they'll sell it to you, with no guarantee that any device you plug into it will work.
